Thousands of Annie’s Kindness Blankets have been delivered across the country in recent years to those in need of comfort and a warm embrace.
Kind-hearted volunteers of all ages made 64 more blankets during an event Saturday at the Abington Senior Center. Tables were covered in soft, colorful fleece and other fabrics that were then turned into Kindness Blankets.
The blankets will be sent to families grieving the loss of a loved one due to suicide, those in hospitals, and children that lack proper beds and bedding, among others.
Annie’s Kindness Blankets was set up in memory of Anne Varney, an Abington mom of three and nurse who took her own life in 2015.
