Compost site open on Saturday
With spring cleaning in full swing in homes across Abington, enhanced trash and recycling pickup service will resume next week.
In addition, the Board of Health will open the Compost Site this Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents can drop off yard waste and scrap metal during those hours.
Republic Services will pick up yard waste set out in separate paper bags or barrels during the service week starting May 11. Leaves, clippings, and small brush are allowed in the bags or barrels. Large brush, branches, or stumps are not allowed. Yard waste should be placed curbside at the same time as trash and recycling.
Simple Recycling will also resume picking up pink bags filled with recyclable fabrics, materials, and small homegoods. Residents can use the bags to dispose of clothing, purses, shoes, hats, curtains, pillows, silverware, pots, and toys. A full list of allowable materials can be found on the company’s website. Residents in need of bags should contact Simple Recycling. Pink bags should be placed curbside at the same time as trash and recycling. Collection is at no cost to residents.
There is still a fee attached to the disposal of bulk items, such as fridges, couches, and mattresses. Residents looking to get rid of bulk items should contact Republic Services at 800-659-1501.
