Abington’s library and town hall will be closed Tuesday as portions of the parking lots and driveways that serve both buildings are repaved.
For the past couple weeks, a crew from Glenn R. LaPointe, Inc., has been removing the asphalt from the rear parking lot between town hall and the library, and the driveway in front of the library. The areas have also been regraded.
The paving will be done by Rochester Bituminous Products through a consortium contract the town has with a number of other communities in the region.
Town meeting approved the work in 2019 as part of a larger package of improvement projects to the 20-year-old government complex, including fixing crumbling concrete curbs. Town Finance Director Sue Moquin said the repaving work became a priority after frost heaves formed during the winter of 2018 creating hazards for pedestrians.
Library Director Deborah Grimmett said the library building will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday because of the location of the work. The library’s curbside pickup service and book drop will also be closed.
It is anticipated that regular services will resume on Wednesday,” she said.
Library borrowers can call Wednesday after 10 a.m., to confirm curbside pickup has resumed. The library’s phone number is 781-982-2139.
