ON THE STUMP: Kelly running for Board of Health

On January 13th, I decided to officially announce my candidacy for one of 3 seats open for the Abington Board of health. Over the last two years, we’ve all felt the impact Covid has had in our community– emotionally, psychologically, physically, and financially. As a husband, and father of 2 children under 4 years old, I’ve experienced first-hand the stress and worry this pandemic can bring to a household.

I’ve also felt the division it has created in Abington, as well as the rest of our country, and I know this is not who we are deep down as a community and a nation. Which is why I’ve decided to run for the Board of Health this year.

Covid is not the only challenge Abington faces when it comes to health. A safe water supply, addiction issues, mental health, childhood nutrition– these challenges were here before Covid arrived, and all will still exist when Covid isn’t the headline any more.

I’ve spoken with many residents of Abington, local businesses, community and state leaders, and neighboring towns to understand how many of these issues impact day-to-day life here and,  If elected, I intend to work with everyone to help get Abington back to a healthier, happier place.

If anyone has thoughts, concerns, questions, my door is always open. Please send them to Clay.kelly@protonmail.com, and let’s get a discussion going! You can also see other updates and discussion on my Facebook page, facebook.com/ClayAbingtonBoH.

Everyone wants to open up, get back to normal, and move on. I see a path forward for that, but we will need to work together–not apart– to clear that path.

Election Day is April 30th at Beaver Brook Elementary, from 8am-6pm—so I ask that everyone come out and exercise their essential right to vote, as we all look forward to a brighter future TOGETHER.
