It was a big weekend for Abington High sports. BIG. And it sets up another busy week for those who bleed Green Wave green.
First, Ultimate Frisbee beat Harvard to win the Division 3 USA Ultimate MA State Invitational tournament.
Second, the softball and baseball swept a Sunday double header and both are moving on in their MIAA state tournament brackets.
Softball defeated Bartlett 9-3 on the strength of a pair of 2-run dingers by Calli Pineau. They will next host Seekonk on Tuesday at 4 p.m., in the round of 16.
Baseball followed it up with a 4-run first inning and a 6-2 victory over Winthrop. They will travel to Bellingham on Thursday for a game at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, the tennis team returns to the tournament for the first time in a number of years. They play at 4 p.m., today in Cohasset.
And girls lacrosse has their first tournament game today at 5 p.m., at Mystic Valley. The program already has one big win under its belt: it was named winner of the South Shore League Sportsmanship Award.
PLANNING, ZONING BOARDS MEET THIS WEEK
A Quincy-based developer wants to turn an old single family home in Rt. 18 into 3 condo buildings and 6 total units. The Planning Board will hold its first hearing on the proposal tonight at 6 p.m. The board is also scheduled to review the town’s Master Plan and start to figure out ways to implement it.
SCHOOL BUS APPLICATIONS DUE JULY 1
Parents who live more than 2 miles from their child’s school and want their student to take the bus starting in September must submit an application by July 1. The fee is $255 per student with a $510 family cap
