AMS 8th GRADERS CAN PARTICIPATE IN FALL SPORTS; SIGNUPS ARE NOW
Students in grade 8 can again try out for spots on Abington High athletic teams this fall. Specifically, eighth graders are eligible for spots on JV soccer (boys and girls), varsity cross-country, freshman volleyball, and freshman football. The 2021-2022 school year was the first time Abington allowed 8th graders to play high school sports. Multiple teams ended up receiving significant contributions from 8th grade members, including track and softball. Parents interested in signing up their students for tryouts should do so immediately through this link.
LEGION TEAM IN ELIMINATION GAME TUESDAY
The Rockland American Legion Post 147 team, which features seven players from Abington, plays in an elimination game Tuesday night in the state Legion baseball double-elimination tournament. The squad won their opening game 8-4 over Greenfield on Saturday, but lost to Milford on Sunday, 14-0. The game is scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m., against Leominster Post 151at Fino Field in Milford.
SPACES OPEN FOR ACAM MIDDLE SCHOOL FILM CAMP
Abington CAM currently has openings for Session 2 of its Middle School Film Camp which begins on Monday, August 1. The free afternoon program, which runs 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., is designed for students who have completed Grade 5, 6 or 7 and want to learn about filmmaking. SIGNUPS FOR GREEN WAVE SOFTBALL CAMP UNDERWAY
Youth softball players in grades 1- 8 can now sign up for the Green Wave Softball Camp, which is taking place Aug. 8 – Aug. 10 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Beaver Brook Elementary softball fields. It will be led by current Green Wave Head Coach Jenna Olem and former Abington stand-out and current BU Terrier Lauren Keleher, with help from current Abington HS softball players. The camp will focus on throwing, fielding, hitting, base-running, in-game strategies, and more. Cost is $100.
STILL TIME FOR SOCCER CAMP SIGNUPS TOO
Abington Youth Soccer is also hosting a summer camp program. Their camp, which is for grades K-8, will take place Aug. 15 – 19, from 8 a.m. to 11a.m., on the high school turf fields. In addition to individual skills, players will work on game development and progression in various game-like scenarios. Green Wave Head Coach Brian Claus will lead sessions for boys in grades 5-8. Trained coaches from the Boston Bolts club soccer program will lead other sessions. The cost is $75/player with a family max of $150
