Transformer repair to shutter town buildings, HS Saturday

Town buildings located off Gliniewicz Way will be closed Saturday while National Grid replaces a leaking transformer.

The work involves cutting power for several hours to the Middle/High School, Public Library, and Town Hall. As a result, the Library announced it will be closed Saturday. There are no classes scheduled for the Middle/High School on Saturday but the building’s restrooms will not be open for families and youth sports leagues using the turf fields. Town Hall phone lines will not be in service during the work, according to Town Manager Scott Lambiase.

The work, however, will not impact the town’s 911 lines or the senior housing complex off Gliniewicz Way.

Selectmen Chairman Alex Bezanson said a town employee recently noticed that the transformer that feeds Gliniewicz Way from the high school to the library was leaking oil.

“National Grid was notified at that time and we have been waiting nearly a month for them to make repairs,” Bezanson said.

Clean Harbors will also be on scene Saturday to assist with the replacement and cleanup.
