AHS Class of 2023 graduates Saturday

Abington High School will graduate 132 seniors Saturday during a ceremony that has been moved indoors because of expected bad weather.

The Class of 2023 were freshmen when the pandemic crashed ashore, cutting short their high school experience. They were also one of the last classes to attend the Frolio for middle school.

The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. in the Middle/High School auditorium. Graduation typically takes place on the main lawn outside the Middle/ High School. But the forecast for Saturday calls for potential rain, wind, and temperatures in the low 50s.

Each graduate has four tickets for the indoor ceremony.  Additional seating will be available in the seminar room and middle school cafeteria, which will carry a live broadcast of the ceremony.

The ceremony will also be broadcast live through Abington CAM, and can be viewed on Comcast Channel 14/Verizon Channel 26; via the Abington CAM website; and the Abington CAM YouTube Channel.

Cameron Testa, the Class of 2023 Vice President, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Madison Carini will perform the Star Spangled Banner. Class of 2023 President Mary Klein will give a welcome address. Wellness Director Karin Daisy is the keynote speaker. Amaya Turner is the featured student speaker. Class of 2023 Secretary Kayden Lynch and Treasurer Rylee DeMinico will present the class gift as well as gifts honoring the school district’s retirees.

Superintendent Peter Schafer and High School Principal Jonathan Bourne will also give remarks before diplomas are handed out.

Class Valedictorian Ryan Libby will also speak before the ceremony closes.
