HS RUNNERS HAVE GOOD DAY AT STATE COACHES MEET

Abington runners had some success at the MSTCA State Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center Sunday. Senior Selena Wood set the school record for the indoor mile recording a time of 5:40.26. And freshman Nathan Calcano Da Silva set a school record for the 300m, finishing in 37.66 seconds, good for 21st overall.

COUPLE OPENINGS REMAIN FOR AEF TRIVIA NIGHT FUNDRAISER SATURDAY

There are still a couple tables remaining for Saturday’s annual Abington Education Foundation Team Trivia Night. The trivia night will be hosted by NBC10 Morning News Anchor Raul Martinez, as well as yours truly. All questions are being fact checked by the Abington Public Library Reference Desk as we speak. Cost is $250/team of 10. Money goes to fund supplemental educational opportunities for Abington students. The event starts promptly at 7 p.m.

PLANNING BOARD HOLDS INFO MEETING ON PROPOSED MULTI-FAMILY ZONING DISTRICT

Abington, like just about every other MBTA community, is putting the final touches on a new zoning district near its commuter rail station. The Plannign Board is hosting an informational meeting on this effort Monday night at 6 p.m., at Town Hall. The board will go over the state’s requirements, the proposed district, and other details. The zoning change will then come up for a vote at the Annual Town Meeting in April.

CHAPIN, HARRIS, BUNKER RUNNING FOR SELECTMEN; NEELY INTERESTED IN SCHOOL COMMITTEE

It appears we may have a race for the Board of Selectmen this spring. Two seats are up for grabs Incumbent Tim Chapin has indicated he will seek a third term on the board. Also throwing their hats in the ring is Jason Harris, of Constitution Avenue, and Paul Bunker, of Peregrine Road. Harris is currently the town’s Building Commissioner; Bunker is chairman of the Conservation Commission. Pam Neely, of Adams Street has taken out nomination papers for School Committee, Gail Bergin, of Morton Street, Mary Gillis, of Temple Street, and Henry DiCarlo, of Central Street, are each looking for another term on the Library Board of Trustees; Rick Collins, of Orange Street, is seeking a third term on the Planning Board; Ellen Delany, of Washington Street, is running again for the Housing Authority; and Mulberry Drive resident Tom Dion is seeking another term as a Water Commissioner. Candidates need 50 signatures from registered Abington voters to make the ballot. All signatures must be turned in by March 11, at 5 p.m.
