YOUR CHOICE ’24: Candidates Forum scheduled for Thursday night

The three candidates for the Abington Select Board will take part in a candidate’s forum Thursday night.

The forum is sponsored by the Abington Democratic Town Committee, Abington Republican Town Committee, and Abington for Social Progress, Inclusion, Representation & Equity (ASPIRE). It starts at 7 p.m. in the Cotter Room at Town Hall.

Rick Collins, of Abington News, will serve as Moderator. Abington CAM will record the forum for broadcast later.

Paul Bunker, Roger Woods, and incumbent Tim Chapin are running for two open seats on the town’s executive board. It is the only competitive race on this year’s Annual Town Election ballot.

Each candidate will be given time to introduce themselves. Organizers have let them know they will be asked questions regarding property taxes, affordable housing, and trash disposal. They will also face questions generated by members of the public ahead of time, from those in attendance, as well as from other sources.

The public is invited to attend, although they will not be able to question the candidates directly.

Candidates without opponents will also be allowed to make quick remarks.

It’s the first time the three groups have held a joint candidates forum. The two town committees have historically held separate candidate events. ASPIRE held its first candidate events last year.
