Abington police found a dead body in the backyard of a Plymouth Street home Friday night but are releasing few details about the investigation.
A message posted by police to their Facebook page Saturday morning said they were responding to a wellness check at 563 Plymouth Street around 7:25 p.m., when they found the body of a 43-year-old man.
The post did not identify the person, whether the person lived at that address, or if it was the person they were checking on.
Abington Police Chief John Bonney referred a request by Abington News for additional information to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, which is leading the investigation.
“The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has accepted jurisdiction and will determine the cause and manner of death,” a spokeswoman for the District Attorney said in an email.
“Police are requesting the public’s assistance, but preliminarily, this does not appear to be a random act of violence.”
The spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a question from Abington News whether police found any evidence that violence was involved in the death.
The property the body was found on is located next to the Plymouth Street Little League field and backs up to the MBTA commuter rail tracks.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident is urged to call MSP at 508-894-2584.
