Woodsdale principal to leave in June

Woodsdale Elementary School Principal Jennifer Barresi announced Wednesday she will be leaving the position when school wraps up in June.

“After three years serving as your Principal of Woodsdale Elementary School, I will be saying goodbye to this wonderful community at the end of the school year,” she wrote in an email sent to parents.

Barresi said she was making the announcement now in order to give the district extra time to find a new principal and assist with the transition.

“Between now and the end of the school year, we still have a lot of important work to do, and I am fully committed to the safety, well-being, and success of each of our children,” she wrote.

Prior to coming to Abington, Barresi was the assistant principal at the MacArthur Elementary School in Waltham.

Abington school officials offered their appreciation for Barresi’s time at the school.

“I wish Ms. Barresi the best in her future endeavors and I look forward to working with her in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition to a new principal of the Woodsdale School,” said Abington Superintendent Felicia Moschella.

“We want to thank Ms. Barresi on all that she’s done for the Woodsdale and Abington community over these three years and wish her the best on her future opportunities,” School Committee Chairman Chris Coyle said.

The Woodsdale Elementary School currently houses the town’s third and fourth grade students.

Moschella said the search for a new school leader will start soon.

“In late January/early February we will establish a Woodsdale Principal Screening Committee, advertise for the position and begin the process of interviewing perspective principal candidates,” she said.
