Two towns, one big ‘Yard Sale’: Abington Celebrates event expands to include Rockland

With more than 60 locations already registered, nonprofits, businesses, and residents are preparing for a full day of community fun as the highly anticipated Town-Wide Yard Sale returns this spring—bigger than ever.

Organized by Abington Celebrates, the popular annual event will take place on Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, April 19.

This year marks an exciting milestone as the Town of Rockland officially joins the event, transforming the sale into a two-town community experience.

The expansion into Rockland is being coordinated in partnership with Rockland Day, thanks to the efforts of Rob Whitman, a member of that committee.

“The Rockland Day committee is really excited to be partnering with Abington Celebrates to help support both our events,” said Whitman. “I hope everyone takes advantage of this fun event, cleans out their closets and basements, and even makes some money selling their items.”

With both towns participating, shoppers will have even more locations to explore, making the event larger and more exciting than ever before.

Mike Carini, known locally as “Abington’s favorite pirate” and owner of Blackbeard Ink Estate Sales, says the event has grown into something truly special.

“As a longtime resident of Abington, this event means a lot to me personally and to our community,” Carini said. “The town-wide yard sale has really grown into something special—it’s a full day where the entire town comes alive. You see streets filled with activity, people meeting each other, and a real sense of excitement throughout the day.

“It’s not just about finding great deals—it’s about bringing people together and supporting something bigger. Proceeds benefit Abington Celebrates, a nonprofit that gives so much back to the town, including events like the Founders Day fireworks that so many families look forward to each year.”

Visitors are encouraged to stop by the main event location at Beaver Brook Elementary School, located at 1 Ralph Hamlin Lane, Abington, where activities will take place throughout the day.

The main site will feature music provided by “Back in the Day DJ”, food vendors, plenty of bargains, and printed maps showing yard sale locations throughout both Abington and Rockland.

Returning again this year, Seoane’s Garden Center will provide generous garden donations, creating a popular pop-up garden center at Beaver Brook that has become a favorite stop for shoppers.

Several local businesses are also giving back. Cream and Sarcastic Swine BBQ will each donate 10 percent of their sales for the day, offering visitors a delicious way to support Abington Celebrates while enjoying local favorites.

Food options at the main location will be plentiful. Members of the Abington Lions Club will be cooking up their “world-famous hot dogs,” while the Wampatuck Lodge Masons will offer free popcorn. Sarcastic Swine BBQ will also be on site.

Participants with leftover items at the end of the day will have an opportunity to give back while clearing out unwanted goods. Blackbeard Inc. Estate Sales, owned by Carini, will offer post–yard sale pickup of unsold items upon request. Pickups will take place within approximately one week after the event, with 10 percent of service costs donated back to Abington Celebrates to support future community events.

One of the most meaningful aspects of the Town-Wide Yard Sale is the involvement of local organizations. The thrift shop at the United Church of Christ continues to serve as a longtime yard sale location, with proceeds supporting individuals and families in need. Other local nonprofits, including groups such as the Abington Dog Park and senior housing communities, have also hosted mini yard sale locations in past years to support their missions.

“One of the most meaningful parts of this event is seeing how our community truly comes together,” said Michele Coyle, Chair of Abington Celebrates. “It’s such a feel-good day for everyone involved—families, volunteers, and visitors alike. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for beautiful weather this year after last year’s rain, but we’re ready either way.”

Funds raised during the Town-Wide Yard Sale help support Abington Celebrates, which organizes several signature community events throughout the year.

“All the money raised this year will help support not only fireworks, but also our signature weekend events,” Coyle said. “Fireworks are incredibly expensive this year, just like everything else, and we’re working hard to make sure this tradition continues.”

Both communities are reporting strong participation, with more than 60 locations already registered across Abington and Rockland.

Residents wishing to participate are reminded that the deadline to register a yard sale location for inclusion on the official map is Sunday, April 12, by the end of the day. The registration fee is $25 per location.

Non-furniture donations will be accepted at Beaver Brook Elementary School on the following dates:

April 11 | 4:00–6:00 p.m. (drop-off only)
April 14 | 6:00–8:00 p.m. (pickup available)
