Abington High officials announced Wednesday that the 2026 graduation ceremony is being moved indoors due to a likely chilly rain storm on Saturday morning.
Instead of being held on the lawn in front of the Middle/ High School, commencement will take place in the auditorium. The ceremony is still scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The Abington High Class of 2026 includes 132 seniors.
School officials announced that each graduate will receive five tickets for family and friends. There generally is no cap on attendees when the ceremony is held outdoors.
“Due to limited seating in the auditorium, we unfortunately cannot provide additional tickets for our graduate’s families,” the notice said.
Forecasts are calling for a steady rain to move across the area from Friday night into Saturday morning. Temperatures are expected to sink to near 50 degrees Saturday morning with a brisk wind.
School officials said they will have a “variety of options” for those without a ticket. Attendees will be able to watch the ceremony in the middle school cafeteria and seminar room.
The ceremony will also be broadcast live via Abington CAM, and can be viewed on Comcast channel 8 or Verizon Channel 26, as well as the Abington CAM website and YouTube channel.
Parents and families will be allowed into the auditorium after graduates arrive at 9:30.
