June 12 is hard deadline to request money back
With Abington’s school buses sitting dormant at least until September, the school department is offering partial refunds to families who paid a school bus fee for the 2019-2020 school year.
Families will receive $90.88 for every fee paid. The refund reflects that the final 64 days of classes of the school year will be held at home due to social distancing concerns arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’ve got people asking for money back for services we’re not providing,” Superintendent Peter Schafer told the Abington School Committee at its May 7 meeting, adding that it’s one of the negatives that comes with charging fees for services.
In order to receive the refund, families must fill out this form and email it to busrefund2020@abingtonps.org by June 12, 2020. No forms and refunds will be processed after that date, according to the school department website.
The school committee also voted to fully refund all spring sports fees as well as any unused pre-K tuition that was collected.
