Building inspector resigns

The town’s Building Commissioner has resigned after less than six months on the job.

Town Manager Scott Lambiase said Chris Carmichael resigned Wednesday effective immediately.

He said Carmichael left “to pursue other interests.”

Jason Harris, who is a part-time local building inspector for the town, will take over most of Carmichael’s duties on an interim basis while Lambiase posts the position and interviews candidates.

Carmichael was hired this past summer after serving in similar positions in Fairhaven and Norton. The Abington position had been open for nearly a year following the departure of Marshall Adams in June 2021. Lambiase, a former building commissioner in Duxbury, took over many of the responsibilities of the role during that year.

Harris is a certified building official as well as a licensed construction supervisor. He’s currently also a local building inspector in Hull.

Lambiase said he’ll be available if Harris needs any assistance or a second set of eyes.
