Power maintenance will briefly close schools, Abington CAM

School officials say scheduled maintenance on the Middle/High School electrical system will result in a full shutdown of the town’s school buildings Monday and Tuesday.

The shutdown will also temporarily knock offline Abington Community Access & Media, which is co-located inside the  Middle/High School.

“It is anticipated that everything will be up and running by mid-[Tuesday] afternoon,” said Assistant Superintendent Felicia Moschella.

The department is having “preventative maintenance” perforned on the building’s main electrical switch, Moschella said.

“After being in service for six-plus years, the time has come,” she said.

During the work, all power will be lost to the building, which also houses the IT functions for the district. Although power to other schools won’t be disrupted, shared  IT services, such as the district’s fob entry security system, computer networks, phones, copiers, and printers will be interrupted.

The outage also means Abington CAM’s programming will not be broadcast through its cable channels or its website, Executive Director Kevin Tocci said. Content will still be available on its YouTube channel.

Once power is restored programing will resume as normal, Tocci said.
