Investigators confirmed Saturday night that a Plymouth Street man was likely murdered and they are seeking information from the public.
Abington Police found the body of Anthony Leverone. 43, in the backyard of his residence at 563 Plymouth Street Friday night.
“Preliminarily, it appears that Leverone died of blunt force trauma injuries,” a statement from Plymouth Country District Attorney Timothy Cruz said, adding that the state medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
“The investigation is active and ongoing at this time,” the release said. “Anyone with any information is urged to contact Massachusetts State Police at 508-894-2584.”
Police went to the site Friday night after receiving a call from Leverone’s family asking them to do a wellness check.
The house at 563 Plymouth Street is a three story multi-family home located next to the Plymouth Street Little League field.
“Upon arrival, Abington Police and emergency medical personnel located the male unresponsive in the backyard of the residence,” the release said. “Abington Fire personnel pronounced the male victim deceased on scene.”
Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office are leading the investigation.
Investigators continue to decline to verify an apparant internal law enforcement bulletin posted on Abington Facebook pages that indicates police are actively looking for a person of interest.
The notice is labeled as coming from a state agency that collects and shares sensitive, non-public intelligence among law enforcement agencies.
Abington Police Chief John Bonney told Abington News he was not going to confirm any details of the investigation that are not supposed to be public.
“The document says law enforcement sensitive. So what I will confirm is that any document that says that means it is not meant for the public,” he said in an email. “Investigations that play out on social media by non-law enforcement personnel tend throw off the direction of official investigations.”
Neighbors told NBC10 Boston that State Police investigators are looking for security camera footage from Friday at around 2 a.m.
Ike Faria, a Plymouth Street resident, told the station neighbors haven’t been given much more information.
“It’s scary because we don’t know anything, if there was a motive, if it was a random break-in. What if that person wasn’t found and they could have done it to us?” he said.
