Amanda Zompetti has resigned from the Select Board, setting the stage for a special election to fill the nearly three years left on her term.
“The community has been so amazing,” she said. “To see how much everybody cares in thai town has been something really special.”
Zompetti said she and her husband unexpectedly got the opportunity to buy a bed and breakfast in Bar Harbor, Maine, and she will be moving north in the coming weeks.
She said the opportunity wasn’t even on her radar when she ran for a full term on the Select Board this spring. But after touring the property in June things fell together very quickly into a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“It always felt like a dream, maybe something we could do when we retire so to get to do it now is exciting and rare,” she said.
Zompetti made the announcement during the June 23 Select Board meeting. Her resignation was effective at the end of the meeting.
“Stepping down now gives the town and school the opportunity to replace me in a timely manner with the best possible candidates available,” said Zompetti, who worked as an administrative assistant at the Beaver Brook Elementary School.
Zompetti won the seat in September 2024 in a special election to fill the eight months remaining in former Select Board member Kevin DiMarzio’s term. She then ran and won a full three-year term this past April.
Zompetti was also a past member of the Health Board, chaired the Community Preservation Committee, served as treasurer of the Woodsdale Elementary School PTO, and worked as a poll worker on election days.
The Select Board is expected at an upcoming meeting to set the date for a special election to fill the seat, as is required by the town charter.
