EDITORS NOTE: Abington News will be publishing candidate announcements for the Select Board race in advance of the April 25 Town Election. We will also start our regular Question of the Week feature in April.
I’m Daniel Eddy, and I’m running for the Selectboard in Abington, Massachusetts, because I believe strongly in transparent, responsible local government that puts residents first and encourages real community involvement.

After serving 14 years in the United States Marine Corps, I’ve developed a deep respect for accountability and a strong opposition to government overreach – whether it’s boards or committees making decisions that impact private lives or broad town changes without meaningful public input. I have libertarian-leaning views shaped by my time in the service, and I’m committed to ensuring our elected officials represent the people, not personal agendas.
- My top priorities include fiscal responsibility to achieve and maintain a balanced budget while reducing our heavy reliance on state funding that hasn’t kept up with inflation and town growth.
- I want to explore ways to ease the property tax burden on our senior citizens, potentially reducing or eliminating it where possible. This will be challenging until we can rebuild our towns fiscal foundation.
- At the same time, we need to balance our budget without raising residential property taxes – through smart expense reductions and by identifying alternative sources – rather than making unrealistic promises.
- I do believe that this override will pass. And it will be up to the Town Manager, the Selectboard, Finance Committee and Abington voters to hold each department accountable over the next fiscal year. I will actively fight against any future override requests.
I’m committed to transparency and mutual respect: officials should communicate openly, welcome agreement and disagreement, and foster respectful debate.
Raised with deep ties to the South Shore – attending Brockton schools while spending much of my time in Abington and Rockland – I’m passionate about building coalitions, gathering public input, and addressing our town’s challenges together.
If you agree or disagree with any of this, or have questions about community engagement in local government, please reach out via the Contact Me section on my website (www.danieljameseddy.com) or send me a message directly on Facebook. I’m eager to hear from you and work collaboratively for a better Abington.
