SPORT: Volleyball
COACHES: Head Coach: Tom Carey (1st season); Varsity Assistant: Alyson Gorman (1st season); Junior Varsity: Jenny Worden (1st season); Freshman: Kyra Hockey (1st season)
SIZE: We have 39 athletes spread across our 3 teams.
KEY PLAYERS: Our three captains are senior hitter-Sophia Flanagan, senior libero, Ava DiPietro, and junior hitter, Ava Healey.
We expect all three captains to play key roles both on and off the court. We also expect returning varsity players Brenna O’Brien (sophomore) and Gabby Trabucco (junior) to play really large roles. And, honestly, we expect a lot from every individual on the team.
KEY MATCHUPS: I have every game circled on my calendar. I think our league is super talented with really good teams and really experienced coaches. Our non-league schedule boasts really good teams in Whitman Hanson, Hanover, Holbrook and Cardinal Spellman. It will be a challenge to face each opponent, especially being a younger, less experienced team.
KEYS TO SUCCESS: Coaches and players have to put in the work on a daily basis working on the fundamentals.
We have to be good teammates and help each other out, and push each other to be better every day.
We have to grind out each rally/each point every match. I like to say “make an effort and hustle for every ball.”
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS: I am super excited with the group of female athletes we currently have. Yes, we graduated close to 10/11 seniors last year, and our varsity volleyball experience is thin, but the group of ladies we have are very athletic, confident, and willing to put in the work. We really do have a great group of seniors, juniors and sophomores. I expect them all to make waves at both the varsity and junior varsity levels this year. And, hopefully, they all keep up the hard work and improve each day both individually and as a team.
