WEEK AHEAD: Seasons change; AHS winter sports start; junior class auction Thursday

And just like that, the seasons have changed.

Thanksgiving Day marked the official end of the fall sports season at AHS. On Monday, the winter sports teams started practicing.

The orange, yellow, and brown decorations that spruce up porches across Abington are being replaced with reds, greens, and whites. Over on Lake Street, the sprawling Christmas display that overlooks Island Grove Pond is back up in all its musical glory.

Of course, its been the holiday season inside Lowe’s since October. And radio stations made the switch to Jingle Bells weeks ago.

But for most of us, as we get ready to switch the calenders on our walls this week from November to December, we’re also starting to deck the halls of our hearts, buy chestnuts for the fire, and don gay apparel (or at least ugly sweaters).

LIBRARY CLOSED MONDAY, MAYBE TUESDAY FOR HEATING REPAIRS

The library’s 26-year-old boiler held on as long as possible but couldn’t quite make it to the finish line. A new heating system was scheduled to literally be installed this week, but the old one officially kicked the bucket over the weekend, prompting Library Director Deborah Grimmett to close the building to the public Monday. The work may be finished in time to open the Library tomorrow; Grimmett will give an update tomorrow morning via social media, answering machine, and signs. Otherwise, normal operations should resume Wednesday. The cost for replacing the system is being paid for with federal ARPA funds, according to Town Manager Scott Lambiase.
