WEEK AHEAD: Town Elections on Saturday!

Just 876 Abington residents voted in last year’s Annual Town Election. That’s less than 10% of the town’s registered voters.

Frankly, that’s embarrassing. It means more than 90% of the town’s voters — about 9,000 of you — either forgot to vote, didn’t want to vote, or didn’t know there was an election happening. [With the state’s new no-excuse-needed early voting rules ‘I was too busy’ doesn’t fly anymore]

These are the folks that govern the town. This is your chance to have a say in who sets policy, approves projects, spends money, runs public meetings, and hires municipal administrators.

We know most of you know where and how to vote — 65% of you turned out last November to vote for a new governor.

It would be nice if you all showed up again on Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., at the Beaver Brook Elementary School and voted in the Annual Town Elections.

Maybe if you are among those few hundred die-hard voters who always turn out, you can remind some of your friends and family in town to peform their civic duty on Saturday as well.

There are three tight races on the ballot for important boards: Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, and School Committee. The eight men and women running for those seats deserve better than a 9% turnout.

Here’s a sample ballot.

Need some information on the candidates? Well here you go!
